Business Cards! and well, just business...

Hello All!

Its been a while since I've "blogged"- Yes, "life" has gotten in the way and of course, we've been busy. I'm starting to realize however, (duh!) that for business, this is actually a good and very much appreciated thing. So we've done a few more gigs since the last (and first time) that I blogged..lol- and these have been again, outside of our spectrum. What are segments/ spectrums anyway, when all you want to do is photograph and be successful right? So these two have been events. One was very similar to the one Elkin shot before, this was actually his Company's "Employee Appreciation Dinner". He LOVED this one! Other than having tons of fun shooting, he said it didn't hurt seeing Doctors, CEO's and very high level people, "getting buzzed and acting fools"...lol. The other he shot was a Bat-Mitzvah- my boss's daughter. This one was an ALL DAY affair; ceremony, luncheon and party! Can you say exhausted?? But also super fun. This one presented a challenging new task; printed albums! Yeah, you know, much like those wedding ones where the photographer gets to design spreads and surprise the happy couple with hopes that they love it. Well that's where we are right now. This one was definitely a project- I will say this though: so far, so AWESOME! But it'll take some time before we have a finished product, I'll keep you posted. OK so now to the point of this blog: we got our business cards!!!! and they look so good! How exciting is this? This "business" is definitely shaping up. I've posted a picture of the cards above. The past few weeks and in between…

These past few weeks have been very busy and very exciting for the development of our business. As you may already know, we launched our site- yeay! (AWESOME! If I may say so myself.) We also ordered business cards, purchased quite a few "props" for the studio and most importantly scheduled and completed a few gigs! The “gigs” were in all different sides of the spectrum. Some were for friends at our in home studio. These ranged from maternity to infant sessions and were mostly fun and very relaxed; we were in the comfort of our home and with familiar company. Then there were the more professional sessions; these were two business events, in particular, MY company events. We arranged for these in two consecutive days; day one was a dinner in an amazing steakhouse in NYC and day two was a business lunch. Elkin was to shoot candids and an award ceremony. Of course my task at these events, is to “mingle” with clients and not worry about the photographer--except of course, when he was snapping MY picture! (this has been the case in previous years) this time was different however. This photographer was MY specific recommendation and boy did I praise his work! Did I mention that he’s the also the one I share my dinners with every night? What a bind! I guess I can say that the anxiety and nerves that were triggered by these particular events were justifiable. I couldn’t help but to ensure the photographer was “capturing the moment” and by this-- I meant EVERY SINGLE moment--even those where people were at the bar refilling their drinks? I know, I know but I had to make sure that my high recommendations produced great results. In the end and unfortunately after annoying the photographer quite a bit- the pictures were fabulous and my company loved them! Did I really expect a different turn out? Not likely- but I do have to see my boss everyday! LOL. In my defense, being overbearing was practical. These sessions did far more than we originally expected; Yes, we had some amazing captures which actually contributed greatly to the website, and yes, some money made its way into our bank account and better yet, we “scored” future gigs! Yay! But they also unveiled the focus of our business:::drumroll please::: Maternity and Children’s Photography! This was surprising as it was almost set in stone that Wedding Photography was it for us. Of course, this does not mean that we are limited to this type of photography. Elkin is a highly skilled and well rounded photographer. So-- can you say busy weeks? I think so and I have yet to tell you about the “behind the scenes”- every thing that happens after the “snap”, Elkin’s post-processing, my QuickBooks balancing, our advertising efforts,etc. These, I will share in detail in my next blog. No one said you needed a big budget and studio to start up your own family business! My name is Elkin and my fiancée's name is Angie and this is our personal and business blog. We want our clients to feel welcomed as if they are our friends; at the same time, we want to keep our friends and family updated on the progress of our business.
